I've wondered when our government, in its wisdom, will decide to consolidate the three holidays associated with kings in to one holiday. There's Three Kings Day on January 6, Martin Luther King Day on January 15 and, of course, Elvis' birthday on January 8. (Elvis? King of Rock and Roll? Eh?)
We already have President's Day in February. Creating a consolidated Kings Day in January seems like the logical next step, even though, of course, absolutely nobody would like it. I loved celebrating Lincoln and Washington, each in turn, when I was a child, so I don't like President's Day at all. Admittedly all we did was make hatchets out of construction paper for Washington's Birthday and a silhouette out of black construction paper for Lincoln's birthday, but it filled the gap between Christmas and Easter quite nicely. I suspect that making, or even mentioning hatchets in a public school today would be considered too violent. Having two holidays in February was a good idea, since it's a rather grey and rather tedious time of year.
